New year goals 2022 on desk. 2022 goals list with notebook, coffee cup, plant

I haven’t posted in a while, but I have been writing. My most recent blog “Pussy Galore” – a nod to the character from the classic 1964 movie Gold Finger, remains in the volt for a later date. It’s not what you think. More of a tongue in cheek nod and has absolutely nothing to do with what you think it might be about.  Confused? Me too.

I want to wish all of my readers and followers a fantastic 2022. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting feedback on my posts, learning about your similar memories and reflections, and in particular I’ve enjoyed connecting with strangers who can appreciate what I write.

I am writing more than ever. I’ve put my memoir on hold for the time being, but that doesn’t mean it won’t get finished. Instead, I’ve been writing creative fiction, and am half way through my first novel – a comedy about an expelled nun turned PE teacher based in Cork in the 1980’s – and I expect it to be finished by April 1st.  I’m not joking.

I used to make New Years Resolutions, but we all agree, they only last about 2 weeks before that trip to the gym slips through the cracks, or that non-alcoholic beer accidentally gets served as a Gin and Tonic. So, this year, I’m being realistic and just focusing on the things I enjoy, the people I want to engage with, and the emotions I want to feel.  And laughing. Laughing as much as possible.

Since I started writing a year ago, I’m delighted to say that I’ve been published twice, once in Good Day Cork, an online magazine based in, yes, you’ve guessed it, Cork. And once in the UK based Funny Women Magazine, which is really thrilling. I’ll share the pieces when they go live. I’ve also written a few pieces for Writing.ie. I am so indebted to Vanessa O’Loughlin and Maria McHale from the Writing.ie Writers Ink private group on Facebook, and all the members who have become a second family to me. Without their support and encouragement, I’m not sure I would’ve really given this writing lark a proper go.

What will you do in 22? Is there anything you’d like me to write about? Having recently finished David Sedaris’ Masterclass, I am up for the challenge to write about ANYTHING.

Be Safe. Keep Smiling. Hug Your Friends. Love Your Family (even if you don’t particularly like them!)
